Faster, Easier, Smarter...
I recently received and e-mail from a future Festool Junkie inquiring about setting up a little shop.
This prospective "junkie" is appreticed in a skilled trad and is currently working as an "instrument technician."
The need immediately in front of him are: storage cabinets, shelving, and eventually branching out into furniture making.
Keeping things within a budget is important, around 2K for the initial outlay of precious funds.
Recognizing that fine tools are the only way to go (currently using Snap-on, Stahlwille and the likes that he is currently using),
our freind recognizes the value; not to mention, the safety and efficiency of Festool. The kicker in all this is the convincing the
significant other that this is a good thing. (See this blog post, Festool Junkie Blog, if the next paragraph or two doesn't work.)
Faster:
Efficiency! The time saved will allow you to spend more time with the wife and children (where applicable, not available in all states).
I will admit that the method of work, changes from what many consider to be American paradigms. You indeed have to think things out differently.
However, getting to the end of the project is faster with Festool. I will mention this later as well, but think of the time NOT spent
on having to clean up. 80% to 90% (depending on machines) of the dust and chips is going into a vacuum with HEPA filters.
Easier:
Let's talk safety! Using the TS 55 and a guide rail is truly the safest way of sizing Plywood. How many of you out there have either
heard of, or have actually experience "kick-back" from a table saw. Lugging a 4' x 8' sheet of plywood onto a saw, and getting it to
go is tough. Frankly, for one guy, it "just ain't safe."
"If you can draw a line, you can cut a board." It really is that easy. Or, if you want to go a little further, mark two edges, span the ply, and away you go.
Smarter:
No dust in the house to speak of, there will indeed be less waste, and the end result is something that you will be truly proud of.
It is just plain smart to hook into a system.
