Midwest Festool Fest / Lincoln Hardwood and Tool Company Show

The Inaugural Midwest Festool Fest at Lincoln Hardwood and Tool Company is slated for August 30, 2008. The event will be held at Lincoln Hardwood and Tool, 2001 SW 5th, in Lincoln, NE. The event is for all those Festool Junkies out there, and for folk who have never seen Festool Tools and Accessories to join in some fun, food, and cheer.
We are planning to have official demonstrations put on by official Festool Corporate Trainers from Las Vegas, and Lebanon, Indiana. Furthermore there will be at least one “shirt” from Festool to answer questions regarding Festool products.

New Forum, www.talkFestool.com has moved into it’s new home.

Hello all,
If you are a Festool Owner / User and like the group feeling that you get in a forum environment; www.talkFestool.com has moved into it’s new home. The new Festool oriented forum has a crisp new look, a team of moderator’s, incredible software with hundreds of features, and well, just a great bunch of folks that have already started posting there. This is where FestoolJunkie, TimmyC, RW, and MarkE will base our forum activity and I hope to see many of you woodworking enthusiasts over there to share, play, and learn.
As I mentioned above, the software is indeed superb and will be the perfect arena for content, reviews, and good ol’ conversation about Tools and woodworking. In my opinion, it is going to be a fresh, and certainly unique forum that has beautiful untended soil, that has not been “churned and burned.”

www.TalkFestool.com / A brand new Festool Forum

I am honored to have been asked to moderate a section of a new forum out there in the wonderful world of Festool. The forum is called talkFestool.com and has a section called “ask a Dealer” We all know that Festool can be a bit tricky with all the attachments and accessories that are available with many of the Festool tools. The vision is to centralize many of these questions and be able to access answers quickly and confidently.
There is a site up now that can be reached by typing in www.talkFestool.com . Once there, you can click on the TalkFestoolForum link and be directed to the forum itself.
The forum is brand new, and they are anxious to get the information rolling in. Upon perusing the site, it is very functional and already allows for pictures, there are several “off Festool” zones that you can join in on, and overall it is a very nice environment.
One of the cool things about this is watching it grow. I am sure there will be little anomalies that will arise, and frankly, that is truly part of the attraction. It appears that there are already some great minds that are involved, and I am just tickled green to be part of it.
Get over there! Sign-Up and start sharing ideas, concepts, projects, and most of all….Have Fun!

Check these guys out! Local friends of Festool Junkie have started to fabricate these killer inlays designed to go on Craftsman Style Furniture. Cruise over here to www.Craftsmaninlay.com and check out the awesome work. They will be in the “new product offering” section Style 1900 magazine in the next issue. If you hit their site tell them I said Hi!
Ben Brunick and Dean Orsborne have really come up with something here. Their inlays are Stickley reproductions in Pewter and Copper and various woods; quartersawn white oak, cocobolo and dyed veneers to name a few. The pieces come on a sheet ready to throw adhesive on the back and stick to your project.
Based out Lincoln, NE these guys are quick to ship stocking the items posted on their website. Custom work is also available to be had. Lead time on custom work ranges from 4-6 weeks depending on the drawing.
This is high quality schtuff, or it wouldn’t be on the junk.

Festool MFK 700 Router Set, Festool OF 2200 Router, Festool MFT/3 Multifunction Table

Festool Junkie is stocked and ready to rock on distribution of the three new
tools launching May 1st. You still have time to order the Festool MFK 700 Set,
Festool OF 2200 Router and Base Sets (Festool OF 2200 Metric Base Set, and Festool OF 2200 Imperial
Base Set), and of course, The all new Festool MFT/3 Multifunction Table.
Despite pre-selling many of these items to get an accurate count on “first round distribution.” Festool Junkie went against the grain (as usual) and took on extra inventory for those who remained on the fence regarding ordering these items. I am amazed with the excitement over the MFK 700 and it’s versatility, the OF 2200 and it’s “Mamba-Jamba-ness” and it’s incredible nimbleness for it’s size, and of course the greatly anticipated MFT/3 has been huge!!! I kinda thought the MFT/3 would be a strong seller after the MFT 1080 went out of production.
Solid Surface fabricators are actually drooling over the 2200. With a significant price tag, I was unsure about how sales would be. When a SS guy gets this router in front of them, many were indifferent regarding the price, and once they saw the end-product…price really wasn’t relevant. One of our clients in KC said it best; “Timmy, it really doesn’t matter what you are going to charge me for these routers (they bought both the MFK and OF 2200). What I know is that there is not another product that will let me do this type of work with the dust control and the time involved. Dude, just make sure they are on their way May 1 and it’s all good!.”

Tool purchases can be difficult when you have a significant other monitoring your buys. Therefore, I have come up with the 9 ways to, “Hide tool purchases for your significant other”.
1. Use Pre-Paid Credit Cards from the bank of your choice. Often, if you squirrel away $20-$30 here and there, it is fairly easy to get up to the required dollar amount.
2. Purchase the tools on lay-away, so as not to have the glaring “big hit” to your credit card.
3. Purchase the tools with cash. Warning, make sure to get the tools dirty prior to showing them off.
4. Get a buddy to buy the tools and you pay them back. Careful, don’t tell the significant other it is a poker debt you are paying off.
5. Purchase several small tools over a period of time; never open them and keep the receipts! Then when you have enough credit on returning these items, get the one big item you desire.
6. Each project requires a new tool, make sure you commit to only the ones that require new tool purchases.
7. Purchase the tools, bring them home, and DO NOT USE THEM FOR SEVERAL WEEKS. This way, when asked if they are “New” you do not have to lie when you say NO!
8. Purchase large tools that can be dismantled; it is sometimes easier to get to the shop with the tools taken apart. Better yet, have the tools shipped to your work place, dismantle them there, and bring them home piece by piece. This is often beneficial for several reasons.
a. There is no packing material to throw away.
b. When you assemble the tool, it looks more like a repair job rather than a set up of the new tool itself.
c. Refer back to Rule 7: it may take a while to get the tool set-up. Therefore, when you are ready to fire it up, it is no longer a “new tool.”
9. Always round the purchase price down when asked how much something cost. I.e. if actual take home cost was $849, you would respond “about $800.” Tax never counts!

This is just too funny. This is my youngest back in pre-school. They were doing a series on good nutrition at the day care and this is what he had to share with us. I suppose I could do the same today with him much older as they pertain to Festool Tools, and the “other tools”. Healthy Tools = Festool and Harmful Tools = All others (to a point).

Today I was looking for some Koa for a luthier friend. I was going to use the Festool RO 125 FEQ to polish it up and show him the power of the Festool. I cruised over to Woodfinder.com and started poking around on their site; I suddenly realized that I had not mentioned the site on the Festool Junkie blog….so here it is!
Woodfinder.com has been around for around 10 years now and they are always there when I need them. Rich and the boys have been very resourceful for us; their site is extremely easy to navigate and the information you can obtain quickly is killer! Anywhere in the country they have the bead on your wood…(well, not literally). If you haven’t poked your head in at WOODFINDER.COM, you just may want to; better yet, YOU NEED TO!
