As of right now, the Festool MFT 800 is no longer available from FestoolUSA; and the MFT 1080 as we know it is in critically low supply out of FestoolUSA warehouse in Lebanon, IN. Word on the street is that there will be one smaller shipment of MFT 1080, MFT 800 Basic, and MFT 1080 Basic at the beginning of January. As for ordering status, they will be on a “first come, first serve” basis…..SO GET YOUR ORDERS IN NOW, and hope that you are amongst the “first come, first served” at the beginning of 2008!

There will be an “advanced” version of the MFT 1080, called the MFT3 that begins production at the end of January, 2008. The new version of the table will include enhanced rail design, increased height to improve the ergonomics and an expanded range of accessories will help in methods of work.

If you are still interested in getting an MFT 1080 get your orders in NOW! FJ will submit the orders and simply have to wait and see if we are amongst the “first come, first served.

Mr. David McGibbon from Festool recently published an article for the SysNotes newsletter from Festool. Air quality is important. You are what you breathe???? I suppose that may be somewhat of the case. With the Festool System, dust and particles are taken out of the game right at the source…the tool.

Not only do the Festool Tools provide accurate and precise work methods, they also provide for an environment that is much more friendly than what most of us that do workworking, solid-surface, floor finishing, and general fabrication are used to.

Festool CT Dust Extractors filter dust in different stages. The first level of filtration is the filter bag. The filter bag has to fulfill very demanding duties: It has to hold back as much dust as possible (goal is 99.9%) and at the same time it has to let the air pass to create the suction. Preventing clogging in the pores of the bag is also important ensuring adequate air flow until the bag is full. The bag needs to prevent as much dust as possible from reaching the final filtration step, the main filter. The less the main filter has to filter, the longer it is going to last and the better job it can do.
The bag has to be tear proof, needs to sit secure in the dust extractor with secure connection between the bag and the dust extractor, the glued joints have to last and have to be dust proof. The bag needs reinforcements at spots with high stress. At the same time the filter bag has to have an acceptable selling price.
Does all that sound like an ordinary paper bag?
Quite a demanding job! An ordinary paper bag couldn’t do it. The Festool CT filter bags are a complex system of paper layers. It took a significant amount of time in the laboratory to develop the right bag for the CT. The engineers examined how dust flows into the bag and how maximum filtration can be achieved. They also have to prevent phenomena like the “dust cake”. In certain dust extractors the dust accumulates to a certain spot and creates a “dust cake”, a very hard piece of dust sitting in the dust bag opposite the inlet, causing the bag to tear.
There are countless hours that went into the design of the filter bag for a good reason: Proper dust extraction only works with the right filter bag.

Festool Junkie is now offering the finest sanding sponge on the market. Webb Abrasives has got it going on with these sponges. Webb has this groovy process called CRT (Clog Resistant Technology). CRT makes these little jobbies last longer, provides for a longer more consistent finish, the sponge doesn’t tear out, and you can work these crazy things wet or dry. Three very distinct factors come into play with CRT.

First off is the adhesive:

Webb’s “glue” is heat-resistant! The sponges are “hot”, but they stay cool. When most sanding sponges are used they heat up and cause the adhesive to “gum-up.” Because the Webb sponge doesn’t heat up, the grit doesn’t sink into the sponge like the others you are paying way to much for! The flexibility of the adhesive holds the grit upright and allows the points to flex instead of breaking off.

Second is the Grit: (Truly)

As are many of the other tools on FestoolJunkie, the grit for these sponges are made in the Fatherland…Yup…Germany. Because the adhesive is flexible, the points of the grit actually sweep back and forth. This allows the sponge to cut in an aggressive manner yet not break down. Adding to this technology, a thin clear coat of polymer is applied to the grit itself creating a thin barrier to…you guessed it…prevent clogging. The sponge is actually covered with grit absent of seams, REVOLUTIONARY! MORE SANDING SURFACE.

Thirdly: The Foam…duh duh duhnnnnnnnn

The foam Webb uses is called Blueflex. It is a soft foam pad….”just right” foam is what I call it. The foam is indeed just right to provide even pressure, hence, better control. Webb Foam can be contoured to any shape, this is cool because it relives the pressure on the grit at the “cutting points.” Putting pressure on a sanding sponge will cause it to fail; yet another reason to buy Webb. There are several shapes the pad comes in, and you can check out FestoolJunkie over the next several days to see these items.
These Sanding Sponges Rock! Like I said, if they didn’t work tremendously well, I wouldn’t have them on FestoolJunkie. These are indeed the finest sanding sponge on the market, and if you don’t like ‘em, send ‘em back.
